The heat of summer is waning but remember to still take precautions when out and about by bringing water to stay hydrated.

And a water source continues to be important for your wildlife friends as birds are migrating they need a good water supply too. But remember whatever you provide needs to be cleaned regularly just like your feeders. Weekly maintenance should occur during always to avoid transfer of disease from birds who gather to feed and drink. A bleach solution of 1:10, a scrub brush and drying in the sun should take care of it easily.

Hummingbirds are also migrating and feeders in Tennessee are seeing more action. PLEASE keep feeders clean and free of black mold...it can make your hummingbirds sick. Nectar should ALWAYS be clean and clear. In this summer heat THAT COULD means CHANGING IT EVERY DAY. Only fill partially to avoid waste. NEVER, EVER use any foreign substance in the nectar which INCLUDES RED DYE, EXTENDERS, and ELECTROLYTES. The nectar recipe is simple and easy to make - 1 part cane sugar to 4 parts water. Doesn't. matter if you're making a cup or 10 gallons, it's always the same.

Most of all enjoy these last few days with your hummingbirds...they'll be gone too soon.
