Bennett’s Lake (Nickajack Lake)

Site Directions: From I-24, take exit 158 and travel north on Hwy 27 for approximately 4.5 miles to Bennett’s Lake Rd (turn right). There is a brown TWRA boat ramp sign just before the turn on the right. Travel a short distance to the boat ramp.

Site Description: The view of the lake is excellent at the boat ramp. There are a couple islands in the distance as well. The shoreline is wooded and is always “birdy.”

Wildlife to Watch: There are two long skinny islands in the distance that are heron rookeries, which are occupied by herons and cormorants from March through summer. There is also a Bald Eagle nest nearby and seeing eagles is likely almost year round. Duck and loon numbers are highest in winter. Woodland birding along the shoreline always seems to be good, especially in winter. A scope is recommended.
