Jackson Swamp WMA

Site Directions: Travel north on Hwy 111/294 from Livingston, TN for a few miles to where Hwy 294 goes off to the left and turn left onto Hwy 294. Travel 5.1 miles to Independence Rd and turn left. There is a large old community center at the intersection. The road into the WMA is 0.2 miles from Hwy 294 on the right. Signage is present.

Site Description: The WMA has old field habitat on Independence Rd with some farmed land. Down the hill past the sign is the "swamp", which is bottomland hardwood forests that are flooded at times. Mowed roads provide access to the swamp.

Wildlife to Watch: A variety of wildlife can be seen including deer and turkey. The old field habitat may have Eastern Meadowlarks and Eastern Bluebirds. The forest edges and thickets provide habitat for winter sparrows, Eastern Towhees, and other wildlife. In the "swamp" visitors may find Wood Duck, Red-headed Woodpecker, and a variety of forest birds including Red-shouldered Hawks.
