Site Description: Mature hardwood forests are accessed via paved roads and trails. The site was part of the Cumberland Homesteads, which was a program of the New Deal in the 1930s. In addition to the incredibly scenic location along the dam of Byrds Creek, the park also features six hiking trails, totaling about 15 miles. The small lake and below the dam provide scenic and refreshing views, especially on hot summer days.

Wildlife to Watch: Woodland birds are abundant in most months. In spring and summer, you may find Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Broad-winged Hawk, Acadian Flycatcher, Barn Swallow, Hooded Warbler, Kentucky Warbler, Scarlet Tanager, and Louisiana Waterthrush. Permanent resident birds include Pileated Woodpecker, Ruffed Grouse, Red-tailed Hawk, and Field Sparrow. Wild Turkey may be seen. White-tailed Deer are occasionally seen from roadsides.
