Sunk Lake State Natural Area
Located about 12 miles SW of Ripley, TN
Lauderdale County, TN
Site Directions: From Henning, TN on U.S. Highway 51 take TN Highway 87 west for about 6.5 miles to the intersection of Sunk Lake Road. Turn right and follow Sunk Lake Road for about 2 plus miles to the site. An access road on the right side of Sunk Lake Road leads into the area (Note: Road may be closed at times).

Site Description: The site is a 1870 acre natural area supporting cypress swamp, bottomland hardwood forest, and open marshy habitat. In addition to many bird species, a number of rare plants occur. The area receives Mississippi River floodwaters at times.

Site History:
The lakes within the preserve originated as result of the New Madrid earthquakes in the early 1800s.

Wildlife to Watch:
Wetland and forest birds may be seen.
